Abstract

This article discusses the theory of consumption from the thoughts of Irving Fisher, M.A Mannan and Mozer Kahf. The purpose of this article is to compare the theory of thought of the Western economist Irfing Fisher and the Islamic economist M.A Mannan and Monzer Kahf regarding the theory of consumption. This research method is the Literature Study method, which uses qualitative data sourced from books, scientific works, scientific journals, webside and others. The results of this study indicate that there are differences of opinion between the three figures regarding the theory of consumption. The results of this study state that Irving Fisher states that consumption is a consideration between the present and the future such as doubts when receiving income whether the income is saved or spent on desires or satisfaction in meeting current needs and does not think about other people always following their passions and desires. imposing the will in wanting something desired following lifestyle, environmental factors and prestige. According to Muhammad Abdul Manan, consumption is a demand which is a very important (primary) part in the study of Islamic economics. For him, consumption activities are not just how to use the products of production. These needs arise from the fact that humans are unable to complete themselves. Monzer Kahf associates with three things in consumption, namely rationalism in Islam, which includes the concept of success, the time scale of consumer behavior, and the concept of wealth. Second, the Islamic concept of goods. In this case, the two terms used in the Qur'an are at-tayyibat and ar-rizq. The three consumption ethics in Islam include halal and good, not israf or tabzir.
